We Are Seeking API LGBTQ Key Informants!
We at the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence have partnered with the Northwest Network of Bi, Trans, Lesbian and Gay Survivors of Abuse to learn more about and explore the unique factors that place queer API individuals experiencing intimate partner violence at risk of being killed by their abusers. Despite prevalence of DV in API and LGBTQ communities, prevention models have not historically been designed for testing/implementing in these communities, nor has research been conducted to learn about these specific risk factors. This project seeks to address this gap in knowledge, and as such, we need the expertise of our partners, such as yourself, to be successful in framing and thinking about the unique considerations for our communities. We would like to invite you to participate to help us ensure that we center the interests and needs of the queer API community.
We will use the data gathered from this investigation to create a toolkit for organizations to use when implementing DV homicide prevention models. We will also use the data to develop a position paper and training curriculum to build the capacity of service providers and community members to respond to the unique needs of queer API survivors.
We are currently recruiting 6 key informants who live at the intersecting identities of Asian or Pacific Islander (API), and lesbian, gay, bi, trans, or queer (LGBTQ), and who also work with queer API survivors of DV/IPV. We would like to sit down with key informants for an individual interview sometime in mid-May, and we are especially looking for folks from historically underrepresented regions such as the mid-west, the south, and especially the territories.
We will be asking participants to budget between 2 and 4 hours of their time for the interview, depending on language need. The interview will be conducted at a time and location of your choosing. The interview will be audio-recorded, transcribed, and de-identified to ensure your confidentiality.
We are also asking participants to attend a 3-hour virtual validation session in June or July 2018, during which time we will share preliminary data from the interviews. An invitation, an informational letter, and a scheduling poll for this validation session will be sent out at a later time to those who agree to participate.
Participants will be paid a flat fee of $50 for a 2-hour interview, $100 for a 4-hour interview with interpretation, and $75 for the validation session. We will also cover any language access costs associated with these meetings.
If you are interested in participating, but would need some additional accommodations in order to make that possible, please let us know and we can discuss what kind of support we might be able to provide.
If you are able to participate or have any questions, please email Biney Kaur Dev at bdev@api-gbv.org.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration, and we hope to partner with you on this exciting project!
